Metal and wood shops are located at 36 Edgewood Avenue (ground floor, room 110)
SPACE
The fabrication shop consists of a 6000 sf space hosting roughly 4 woodworking benches, 3 metalworking benches, and 6 mixed-use benches for outdoor work. There is a 3’ x 3’ x 5’ capacity spray booth and limited temporary material and project storage areas. The shop is staffed by managers, technicians, and student work study monitors when open, and serves roughly 150 students.
TRAINING
The Edgewood Shops are open to trained graduate students in the School of Art and trained undergraduates currently enrolled in sculpture classes. Graduate training occurs during orientation in the fall and undergraduate training occurs during sculpture classes or at the start of each semester for thesis students. There are separate trainings offered for the wood and metal areas.
After completing basic safety training, students may seek additional skill-building or project consultations through coursework or with staff by appointment. Contact fabshop@yale.edu or use the
